Failing macerators

I seem to have to replace a Jabsco macerator pump every year. I never run them dry, but over the course of a year they begin to fail. Initially they lose pumping capability until finally they freeze up and pop the breaker. I’ve tried reviving them by manually turning the screw that rotates the impeller, but to no avail. Any advice, as replacing them is one of least favorite tasks.

Re: Failing macerators

Time to switch to an electric diaphragm pump...a good bit pricier than a Jabsco macerator pump, but by the time you've replaced two macerator pumps, you've spent more than the difference. The Dometic/SeaLand T series pump is the "pick of the litter"...Defender has it, usually for the best price but it doesn't hurt to shop around SeaLand T-Series Pump at Defender Jabsco also makes a diaphragm waste pump...Xylem (who now owns Jabsco) has made it impossible find anything on their website any more, but I was able to find it on the Defender site Jabsco Waste Pump @ Defender You'll find the owners manual at a "data sheet" button at the bottom the page.

I'd go with the Dometic T-pump. I had one on one of my own boats that was 11 years old and still going strong when I sold the boat.

Re: Failing macerators

Will check it out. Have some space constraints and also need to check connections with my current hose diameters. Thanks!!

Re: Failing macerators

I was replacing my Jabsco every year. Last time I replaced it with a Flojet and it's been 1.5 years so far. The Flojet was even less expensive off Amazon.

Re: Failing macerators

Your Jabsco macerator has a 1" discharge, so your thru-hull prob'ly is 1" too...but that's easily solved one of two ways: 1. put a 1.5" x 1" adapter on the discharge from the new pump, or 2. replace the thru-hull with a 1.5". Fortunately it's lot easier to make a thru-hull larger than it is to make one smaller.
