External Tank Gauges

I am looking to fit a sensor to a plastic tank, in this case water.
I am keen to avoid cutting holes and other invasive operations.

I am already discounting the use of internal floats and sight tubes or even sticks!


Has anyone retrofitted a external, maybe an ultra sonic gauge with successful results?



A few years ago a similar thread ran and Scad systems were recommended- is this still best of breed.

Remember no sticks, tubes or floats please!

We replaced a malfunctioning ultrasonic sender with the SCAD TM1 on a plastic holding tank. The new one works great, no problems, easy install.

Hi Mark,

I have not looked at what is currently available in the marine market but a capacitive sensor should work well for a plastic water tank. We had a capacitive level sensor of Meri's blackwater tank and it worked well enough. It did need recalibrated when we got on the Chesapeake and the raw water salinity changed substantially, but even without the recalibration it was within 1/8 tank. The sensor itself was a self adhesive strip that was stuck on the outside of the tank.

I have a Gobius tank gauge for plastic holding tank, simple install and works well.
