Diesel Water Boiler

Hi,

So this is not entirely related to cruising actually but this seemed like a good place to look for help. As part of a larger portable system my company is making, we need a diesel water boiler. We have a specified burner to use that we need to mount on a boiler. Because we are specifically required to use a diesel burner almost everything I have found is designed for home use and weighs a few hundred pounds. As this is meant to be a portable system cutting weight is important. A diesel heated instant water heater could work too.

So in summary my problem is that I need a small, light, diesel boiler which accepts an external burner. Given how common diesel is in the sailing community, and that sailboats don't have room for massive boilers, I figured someone might know of such a boiler.

Are you making steam or just really hot water? Most heating "boilers" can run up to about 250°, but under low pressure (about 15psi) so steam isn't made.
Water is a lot of the weight. Smaller tank, less weight. Flash steam might be an option.
If you're going to build a experimental boiler you'd better have a steam engineer around. Things get explosive fast.

We just need hot water, and not particularly high volume, its for a dish washing station.

I use a Webasto Thermo Top E 2,5/4,2 kW diesel/water heater to heat my Water Heater (Boiler)

There are a number of companies making diesel-fired hydronic heating systems that also produce domestic hot water. Webasto comes to mind, but there are others.

This is done all the time, it shouldn't be difficult.
