DC air conditioners

I found a couple of Dc air conditioners, 6000 BTU for the bedroom for local cooling of the bed. Lagoon 400.

They seems to pull quite a bit less amp/hours compared to AC versions of 6,000 BTU.

I know I'd need some 4 gauge wire for about 20 ft. (tinned) which is about another $90 bucks.


DC: 6,000 BTU 12.8 volts = 30 amps DC on high. x 8 hours = 240Ah over night.


AC: 6,000 BTU 230v AC (website says only 982 watts, I did conversions). Running amps 2.8 / 982 watts. Convert to 12v Ahr at .85% inverter efficiency = 96 amps x 8 hours = 770 Ahr over night.


AC: 6,000 BTU at 230v AC. Running 3.4 amps and using 90% inverter efficiency is 81 amps/hr and at 8 hours of sleep = 651 amp/hours.

The run current of a 6000 BTU AC air conditioner (Dometic Turbo) is 4.6 amps at 120v.



So more like 552w vs. 380w, plus inverter inefficiency., so more like 430Ah overnight. Also, 8 hours does not allow for cool down time.

What do you mean cool down time? The off time of the compressor between cooling cycles?
