Damaged Charcoal Filter

Looking for advice on whether a damaged charcoal filter can be used in my new Spectra Ventura watermaker. As per the attached photo, the charcoal filter is damaged. The outside plastic mesh is torn and there are two small divots in the white filter material. I don't think charcoal will spill out of the white filter.

Can I use this filter or is its purpose significantly reduced? Any risk to the watermaker (e.g., not filtering chlorine, charcoal spilling into the system...)?

Thanks,
Don

Re: Damaged Charcoal Filter

Since the flow is from the outside inwards, I'd probably lace the mesh back together and use it.

That said, they are cheap from people like filters fast.

Re: Damaged Charcoal Filter

This was not a question about cost, but whether I can use the damaged filter.

I'd hate to dispose of if it is perfectly fine. I thought these were more expensive, but searching online they are around $35.

Rather than risk the watermaker, I'm inclined to toss it in the trash.....

Re: Damaged Charcoal Filter

But its not perfectly fine...its damaged...even small bits of any of the filter components could do expensive damage. Why would you risk doing more expensive damage to your watermaker? Your maximum gain is $35...maximum loss? The math doesnt work.

In fact, probably much less than that. This is $10 fora name brand. Off-brand is cheaper. If it is carbon bock, a few dollars more. It's a commodity filter.
