Composting head with some customizations?

I'm trying to find others who have had success with putting in a composting head and figuring out how to rig something with a locking Y valve to the liquid tank component so that liquids can be switched over to overboard discharge > 3 miles out.

I just bought a 1957 classic wooden boat with a currently non-compliant (goes over the side) head. As the thru hull plumbing already exists, and I do expect to be offshore a bit, I figured that I might as well take advantage of that and figure out how to integrate the two.

Is this more trouble than it's worth? I read somewhere on here that someone ordered a custom Airhead with that feature.

Also - any strong feelings on brand of composting head or more luck with one particular brand?

Personally, I liked the c head better than airhead or natureshead as it seemed less messy when emptying out the container of poo.

I had a similar setup with discharge directly overboard. I'm glassing that over once I pull the boat this winter. Emptying it out seems easiest with the least amount of moving parts and I personally like the idea of 1 less hole in the boat.

We're happy with our airhead. To empty the liquids tank over the side of the boat takes approx 2 minutes once every couple of days. Don't know that I'd go through the time, complication, parts, and maintenance to keep the overboard flush going.

Yes we are. If you're offshore in an ocean more than 3 miles from land it is permitted.

I thought about messing with a pump out for urine but in the end gave it up. The gallon jug in the C-Head is easy to remove, and either take ashore or over the side depending on what is appropriate.

It's also easy (and free ; -) to replace, which was a big selling point for me.
