Cleaning water tanks with vinegar

I did this today. I ran the water through all of the faucets, let it sit a while and flushed, flushed, flushed. However, whenever vinegar water came through the galley faucet, it was fizzy, as if I had also added baking soda.

Anyone know why? Is this a big concern?

I think so, but I thought I could tell the difference between vinegar water and fresh water.

Re: Cleaning water tanks with vinegar

Calcium deposits and hard water scale being dissolved. If you have aluminum tanks, then it may also be aluminum hydroxide.

Neither of these indicate a problem.

Re: Cleaning water tanks with vinegar

Just curious. Was the vingar diluted or full strength?

If diluted it is often little more than good mold food. After all, it is biodegradeable and was made by fermentation. pH swings are not a very effective sterilyzing method unless quite extreme and sustained.
