Can I Really Drink This?

watermaker or filter? I think a filter, if effective, is better in my situation-I have quite large water tanks, and will be coastal cruising only, so I can top up frequently, although the sources of this water may ne questionable at times...eg from private wells in Turkey, Greece etc.
Ive been researching water filtration, and came across this product: How it Works
The advertising blurb says it removes all viruses, bacteria etc etc. There is also a statement about a guy drinking from canal water using one of these. Sounds too good to be true-I can't see any company making claims like this unless they have good evidence to back it up, product liability being what it is. Has anybody any experience of this product, or recommend anything better?

Filtration can clean up dirty FRESH water, but will not desalinate seawater.

Don't know about this particular filter, but there are plenty of filters available that will take seriously contaminated water and make it safe to drink.

I saw a product showcased on "TED Talks" as a remedy for drought ridden areas where the the water supply is very questionable. The guy had a large, clear tank of water and he began adding animal urine, dirt and much more filth then he processed it in mere moments and drank down. It was fairly pricey, almost $2000 for the smaller unit but it did look effective...the canisters/filters were good for a few thousand litres before having to be replaced ($200). That's it, nothing much to add.....Allan

thanks everybody. The filter I was looking at is only £143, so if it does the business, it's got to be a bargain. I will keep you posted....
