Boat toilets
Help! We have replaced 4 toilets in 7 years and are fed up with it as everyone knows it's a s%## of a job. TMCs don't last at all! Can anyone recommend a reliable electric macerating brand please!

Re: Boat toilets
Raritan Elegance toilets seem to have the least trouble. The Raritan Sea Era is a good choice as well. Consider going with a fresh water flush. You eliminate one source of odor and one pump that requires maintenance.

After you pick yourself up from the floor after pricing the raritan toilet here in Aust you may consider the tmc to not be that bad. I have had my boat for over 5 years and had to replace the pump assembly on the tmc toilet once, which I rebuilt and stored as a spare, and have had no problem since. (probably will now that I have made this statement LOL)
Cheers.

Re: Boat toilets
I didn't notice you were in Oz. If you have the TMC toilets with bowls that fasten to the base with four bolts and have a hose that runs from the intake pump to the back of the toilet, you can order a Raritan Sea Era conversion kit from the States and reuse your bowls. The conversion kit can be sent by Priority Mail fairly cheaply. It gets expensive to ship the porcelain part. Contact Victor at my old company for a quote.

Hmmm, Uncle Bob is same location and using same toilet but has had his 5 years with no problems (since the rebuild). Maybe get with him, compare notes and see what he is doing differently than you. Maybe he has the right PM routine to keep em flushing!

Re: Boat toilets
Georgie,
I would be interested to know what is continually failing on the toilet. We have had a TMC Deluxe installed for the past 13years. We have been underway full time for the past 11 years. In that time I have only had to rebuild the pump once, and that was partially my fault.
Installation is the key. It took us a little while to figure that out. That was why the first pump failed. Since then we have had 7 years of faultless service and I wouldn't consider changing.
Is it the pump that is failing, and if so what is the symptom. I may have the solution for you.

Re: Boat toilets
I actually built my own using a Jabsco full size bowl. I built the base to except ABS pipe, feed it to a Jabsco macerator behind , a few relays and valves and you are done. I have built two of them and they both have been working perfectly full time for almost three years . If they do break they are easily serviced.
Regards John

TMC makes several different models of toilets. The cheaper ones are pretty much poor copies of the low end Jabsco. Then again Uncle Bob may just not use his toilets as often as the OP.

Re: Boat toilets
Get a thetford comfort mate
Leave the manual pump off and replace with a macerator pump.
Enjoy

Ok, I'll bite. How does the replacement water get into the bowl?

I went from a Tecma silence that used a solenoid connected to the boats fresh water system so I used that. You can use a pump like a Jabsco water puppy with a strainer for sea water.
I forgot to add another piece of the puzzle that we really liked, this Jabsco 3 way switch which allows intake and outgoing at the same time or in only or out only. This can be very useful.
The switch on the right:
