Bilge pumps that don't leave water behind

Is there a bilge pump out there that doesn't leave behind a 1/4" of water?

It is not so much the pump as the water between the high point in the hose and the pump. When the pump shuts off that water runs back into the bilge. They make one way valves for that hose but are usually a bad idea.

It’s called a shop vac.
That’s the reality for me.
Though there may be some small aquarium style water pumps you can attach a hose to. Then put the hose into a small sump.

The issue will be the gap between the pump inlet and the bilge. Unless, like a vacuum, you get so much air flow it entrails the water.

It is not recommended to install a check valve on an electric bilge pump, however, you could have a second, small bilge pump with a check valve. Problem solved.

We use a turkey baster. It is much smaller than a shop vac!

Yes, there is....but it’s got to supplement a real bilge pump.

ideally the bilge pump/s need to be located in a sump, so that the residual 10-15mm is a small volume. this last bit is unavoidable as the pump suction can't be located any closer to the bottom of the bilge

unfortunately modern hull shapes don't make this sump as easy as in older style boats

we have a small portable pump that i use to suck up the last few liters

Small 12 volt pump off ebay for $25-00 will suck all the residue water out of the bilge after the bilge pump has got rid of the bulk water,
My bilge pumps wont suck down past 1/2 an inch due to shape of the hull,

If you do a good job of venting your bilges, the remaining water evaporates and also kills the boat smell.

Diaphragm pumps do a lot better job of sucking up the last bit than centrifugal pumps.

I installed a dry bilge system...Dry Bilges are possible!
drained it to a shower sump...works great...has a programmable timer
0 water left behind

I think it's worse in catamarans, and I find it HIGHLY ANNOYING.

Use a diaphram pump, with a contact switch style float. Water witch is the brand i have
When triggered, it pumps the water out(obviously) and runs an additional 8 or so seconds after water drops below the switch
