My new Whale IC system definitely works with fresh water - I'm 100 miles from the sea. Last night I flushed the bilge with a hose and it turned on.

Note that the Water Witch relies on the water being conductive and the contacts being clean.

Some Whale and Rule switches use something they call field effect. They don’t rely on the water being conductive, there for they are more reliable in fresh water.

I have no idea how “field effect” works.
