Automatic Bilge pump won’t stop

Okay all. I have one that has me absolutely flummoxed and could use some guidance

Whale Gulper 320 bilge pump with an automatic float switch. (Remote)

Bilge pump started coming on, disconnected the float switch and it would stop. I could still turn the pump on/off manually, but as soon as the float switch was connected, it came on and stayed on. No big deal, just need a new float switch

Go and get an identical switch to the old one. Install it. Exact same problem.

Figure maybe it’s a pump issue. Swap in a different pump. Same issue.

This tells me it’s an electrical problem (or the new switch is faulty). Of course, the wiring disappears into a mess of conduit and harness under the bridge deck floor so can’t be easily traced.

Ideas/suggestions on where to look or what to do are welcome.

Re: Automatic Bilge pump won’t stop

check your wiring. I had a small whale with the integrated float and it stopped working. sporadically so I bought a new pump and separate float. problem solved. when when i was hooking things up, noticed that one of the wires had some rubbing/corrosion..

hooked the old pump back up for a bench test and it worked fine.

might be time to pull new wires.
