It's not OK.
If your fancy neighbor releases rats into the marina, it is surely by accident.
I suggest that you collect them and deposit them on his deck or cockpit so he does not lose them. Surely he will thank you for it.

Re: Are any boaters following the law?

at my marina i never have to wait on dock space at the pup out station. and rarely see any other boats there. and there are a couple of hundred boats in slips some never go out but are used as "water front houses" a lot. so ???

Cant blame them , unless of course they drain their stuff in it.
In Alabama everything goes in the river, EVERYTHING!!
Its the mentality.... an yall dezint need ta axe me wye it jess duz...

This is something a lot of cruisers don't seem to understand.

Not saying it is fair.

But water front property owners pay a lot more taxes than boaters and the pols will listen to them. They also tend to vote more than boaters. One single boat can dump the contents of their holding tank; or even throw some trash over the side and a water front property owner will claim that all boats do it.

Especially in places like Florida there are a lot of boats that really don't belong on the water; they are basically low rent apartments located in prime locations where the water front property owners are literally paying millions for their homes. The result is a black eye for all boaters.

Back when I first started sailing in Biscayne Bay in the 1950s it was common to spend the weekend sailing to Sand Key and never see another boat. There were far fewer water front mansions. But since then over twenty million people have moved to Florida and the result is what was acceptable back then is no longer acceptable.

As for following the law I have a composting head and have noticed marinas and the USCG and FWC really seem to like it; probably in part because it makes their job easier.

I have also spent some time sailing on inland freshwater lakes. In places like Lake Powell boaters do obey the law; in great part because enforcement is a lot stricter than some places. Same goes for the marinas I tend to spend time in in Florida. While I have no doubt there are some people who dump their holding tanks in places while it is against the law as a rule it is not worth the risk if you are in a congested area.

YMMV

Re: Are any boaters following the law?

After sorting out this problem , and that of “ is sailing single handed in breach of the regulations, give the Middle East situation some attention.

For your information I sail single handed An pump out , I have never had a sleepless night over these two incidents.
Cheers

To keep the pee squeaky clean you have to either pee in the shower, in a bucket and dump it overboard, or use the rail (last option not recommended!)
