anyone ever see a seacock like this ?

i could really uae some advice. these will probably seem like dunb questions. i am trying to learn. any help appreciated.

i am pretty new at marine septic systems. had a lot of boats over years - always subscibed to the less holes in the bottom the better and always just used portapotties. now i have a jabsco head and it seems to work ok, although crammed under the small v- birth of my Bristol 24 hard to see where all the plumbing goes etc. i have one of these seacocks which i think is a direct drain for the head as it end off a vented loop there is also another hose off that and an old stye gate valve, but it doesnt seem yo make sense either because of where it is located

i can stick a screwdriver and turn i through the opening and turn it a half turn at a time but i can turn and turn amd turn and it never does lock out one way or the other. i thought maybe they were gate valves and if i turned long enough it would open all the way or shut all the way and then i would not be able to move. but they just turn indefinitely.

anyone who could help me identify this valve and how / what position is opened or closed i would appreciate it. they seem solid and in good shape and not leaking. would rather not pull the boat just to replace. trying to make sure to figure out what proper settings are to open vs close. plus how to lock shut for coast guard compliance.

when i test the head ( with clean load ) it all goes away and refills etc but i cant seem to find to where etc.

i have tried looking on lines at diagrams of systems, heads etc. mine doesnt make sense comoared to those, but i feel like if i could get confident enough that i definitely have these shut off .... i could either pull the thing out or dosconnect the hoses and then see what comes out when i pump thr lever on the head

anybody who has seen this or can help. your input appreciated. thanks

That is a proper tapered cone seacock. The first image depicts the valve open, turn the flat end 90 degrees and the valve is closed. This valve operates like a ball valve, not a gate valve.

If you are not sure where the waste goes, pick up a bottle of red food dye from the local supermarket and pump some thru and see if it shows outside the boat. If you see red in the water , start looking for a Y-valve in the system, but you may not have a holding tank at all. If you bolt a small S.S. bar thru the hole in the shut off valve handle and have some way to put a padlock onto the bar, you can be no-discharge legal. _____Grant.

the rest of the system is going to take some experimentation. i thought of the dye. prob best way to start. it is just so jammed up in there i cant see whete hoses even go. it is an old boat but there are definitely tanks and there is a discharge / waste cap deck plate

Wilcox Crittenden, excellent until they get out shape and corrode. Grease them every 2 years and carefully adjust tightness. Every 4-5 you might need to lightly compound. Eventually as they wear down you may need a second bronze washer. Keep all parts together! Do not mix them up!

2 316 stainless steel hose clamps and proper waste hose. Is good!

Yep. Cone-shaped valve.
If it is too hard to turn, loosen the nut. Too easy or leaky, then tighten a bit.
Pulling it apart and cleaning/greasing it every couple years will keep it going for some time. If one is ever stuck, you loosen the nut and give it some taps on that side with a hammer to loosen it. Forcing it can cause scratches and wear that will make it leak.
