Adler Barbour Super Cold Machine - Too Cold !

I have an adler barbour super cold machine refrigeration system that gets too cold (freezes my bier!) using the lowest setting possible on the dial. The temperature sensor is right up against the evaporator, and the water pump is switched off (using air cooling only).

The compressor cycles on and off, drawing about 56 amp hours from the battery in 24 hours.

Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get effective temperature control?

Thanks for the help in advance!
Michael

what happens if you turn the dial the other direction?

turning the dial in the other direction turns the compressor on (wasn't running just prior to turning dial) - so i am assuming this is the 'colder' direction..

Well...most importantly...move the beer away from the evaporator and put a towel over it or something.

As far as the control goes it sounds like you understand the principal. My thermostats on both an A-B Cold Machine and a Technautics have both needed to be at the warmest setting...as close to dial number 0 as possible without turning off.

If I remember correctly, you are supposed to form a little "hook" in that sensor. It made a difference in mine. Look for that in the manual if you have one.

Thermostat's small sense tube on Adler Barbour units need the last 5 inches of of tube clamped under evaporator's sense tube bracket. This means a U shape with 2 inch legs. The amount of sense tube contacting will control evaporator temperature and related higher box temperature. If sense tube length clamped to evaporator is correct then someone has installed a freezer thermostat by mistake.

Well forming a u shape, with 2" legs seems to have done the trick! Many thanks for the help and suggestions!

Re: Adler Barbour Super Cold Machine - Too Cold !

If you want a really cold freezer bin you can also add insulation to the outside of the bin; colder on the inside w/o freezing your beer on the fridge side...
