Adler Barbour CU-200 Water Cooling Install Questions

So I am looking into installing a Adler Barbour CU-200 on my new Westsail 28.

I live in South FL, so water cooling I think is a must.

I am rebuilding the galley myself, so I can put what I want, where I want.

The water cooling add on kit sells for $500+- everywhere I see it, and all it is is some hoses, clamps, fittings, a pump, and a switch.

Any reason I can't piece this together my self for $150+- or am I missing something?

I am gonna use the Adler Barbour VD-150 small horizontal evaporator.

Is the thermostat on the evaporator cold plate?

Any one for or against this unit set up?

Re: Adler Barbour CU-200 water cooling install questions

The higher the water temperature, the smaller the contribution the pump makes, to cooling the heat exchanger. The amps consumed by the pump would be better used by the higher efficiency of the compressor running a little longer.
Running salt water thru the heat exchanger also adds the electrolosys problem.
I changed my water cooled system to aircooled with no noticable difference.
Thats my experience.

Re: Adler Barbour CU-200 water cooling install questions

The air cooled Adler Barbour CU100 is a better choice in warm seawater as long as it is installed correctly. If you plan to use their small bin evaporator the BD50 compressor will be set by AB to operate at a slower speed to achieve best daily energy efficiency, causing compressor to run longer per day. This is another reason why pump's current drain will result in high energy use. My tests show that using water cooling on the CU200 when seawater temperature is above 75 or below 65 degrees F is less efficient than air cooling only.
