The interwebs seem to think 4-8” is high enough, but I feel it should be 8” minimum, 10-12” even better, but I’ve never done an AC install. Anyone have any opinions on this?
Thanks in advance.

Two dumb questions. I have installed AC before, very successfully, but both times on multihulls. Different problems (very shallow bilges).
1. Will the AC run underway when heeling? I doubt it.
2. What harm would it do if it dunked under occasionally? I'm sure mine have. Storm are like that. But the system is sealed. The only reason to discharge above the water, I believe, is to aid in purging air at startup.
I doubt it matters that much. I just looked in the Dometic manual and it does not specify a distance. Not important.
On multihulls you damp the noise by puting it inside the hulls, under the bridge
deck.
