Where does it drip - stuffing box

Where exactly should the drips come from on a propeller shaft stuffing box?

From A or from B (see attached picture).

Thanks.

Normally it would drip from B where the shaft come out from the gland nut, now with that said water could migrate through the threads and leak at A also.

Re: Where does it drip - stuffing box

That's what I thought. If it doesn't come out of B, then I done packed it too tight and need to pull all all out and repack? 'Cause that's what's happening. It drips from the A area and never a drop from B.

I just repacked it, but in a moment of absent-mindedness, I think I over tightened and compressed all the packing.
