Volvo QL800 bow thruster - prop removal

Our Bavaria 46E has Volvo BP800 bow thrusters. We're trying to pull the props to check the zinc and clean out the tunnels.

There is a cap screw holding on the prop, but I can't get the prop(s) off. I found a parts list, and it appears to show a cotter pin(?) holding them on?

Nope. I think you are looking at a shear pin, taking the place of a rubber prop hub.

I recommend: With the nut/bolt off, take a cheap wood chisel and tap it into the crack between the prop and the hub. The prop will move. I keep two cheap wood chisels for separating parts that appear to be glued together.

That shear pin is called a "drive pin" part #22 in your parts list.

Thanks for the replies. I found the 2 cap screws holding each prop. They are like a set screw that sits in a channel on the shaft. Once we removed them, we were able to tap each prop out from the opposite side. They were "disguised" with barnacles and antifoul paint...

I have the exact same problem and only found “hidden” screws after trying to get the props of for quite a while. All screws are now removed and the props can be moved back and forth a few milimeters but it’s like they are hitting a hard stop when trying to get them of.

Any suggestions? Just more force to convince them??

Reopening an old thread

trying to remove the prop on BP800 to replace the anode. I have removed the screw set 90 deg to the shaft is it now just a matter of hitting the prop gentle from the other side ?
There does not seem to be a cap screw / nut
on the end of the shaft .

Any help appreciated
