Vetus type 6 shaft coupler

I am trying to work out how to align my new shaft with one of these couplers on. I just can't work it out. Has anybody out there done it and can help me out ?

Vetus' online "manual" for that coupling looks like the product of two years' exhaustive research by a committee led by the boss's wife's sister's boy.
