Stuffing Box Leak

The last thing I need before an Atlantic crossing!

The hose entering the plastic* through hull near my stuffing box is leaking.
I've a 2007 4jh4ae YANMAR. 54 HP. I assume that the hose in question is to provide positive water pressure from engine/exhaust?

Can I just rip the hose off/out of plastic and hose clamp and glue all around making it watertight? What problems might this cause?

I have previously re-tapped the hole for the hose into the plastic and know it will not survive another re-tapping. During this operation I was recommended to replace the whole plastic section next time out of water but haven't had her out yet.

Any help much appreciated.

It's hard to tell from your picture but it looks like you have some kind of dripless adapter, not a stuffing box. If that's the case, the purpose of the hose is to allow the adapter to "burp" while in reverse so you don't get an air pocket that would allow the adapter to heat up and fail. These are often tied into the heat exchanger.

When you re-tapped it before did you use any time of tape or pipe dope? Did you use the same barb or did you get a larger diameter one?

Depending on what manufacturer this piece is from, it might be at the end of its lifecycle. I have the PSS system. They recommend replacement at 5 years but most people will get closer to 10 years of use out of them.

I took half a dozen more photos mate then met some German guy at the pub who's a mechanic. It turns out there was 2 leaks and the major one is from the water heater slightly aft of shown photo. Think I'll be able to get it sorted out now though.
