Screws inside SD20ssil drive mistery

Just opened my Yanmar SD20 sail drive and found these two screws lise inside.
I am at a loss in trying to find where they come from.
The shaft turns freely and there is no sign of other steel filing etc in the oil.

Any ideas??? Click image for larger version

Those pieces are not from the saildrive itself. Looks like an attempt at sabotage...

Hola,

I agree with Thumbs as I just removed, rebuilt and re-installed both of my SD20 saildrives in our catamaran and nothing like the parts in your picture exist in the saildrive as it was originally built.

Safe Journeys,

Re: Screws inside SD20ssil drive mistery

Thank you for your answers,
sabotage.... while possible, it's improbable.
I bought the boat a few months ago, would have done 25h of motoring, then serviced motors and drives.

I suspect that those screws were in the bottom of a container used to refill the oil by the previous owner and just sat there on top of that bearing, fortunately without causing any damage.

We will never know the true story.....

If they were from the saildrive then there should be the head of the broken bolt somewhere as well!
Not sure what that other screw is - very course thread?

The other screw almost looks like drill filings. There are some "mechanics" who sabotaje machines, Those are totally foreign objects. Someone dropped them into the oil fill. whodunnit????
