Re: Replace cutlass bearing

We just did ours and i don't know if all are the same but we tried pullers and had to end up cutting it out and with our boat we had to drop rudder to get shaft out to replace bearing and it was no 1/2 hr job and was not a job that could be done w/o lots of plugs to fill holes while bearing was being replaced. As recommended above replace when doing bottom paint job. Always work smart not hard...

Re: Replace cutlass bearing

In a case like Del's, keep the old bearing. Remove the rubber, split it lengthwise in 2. With 2 hose clamps, it can be fitted loosely around the shaft, and used the next time as the push mandrel. Have 4 sizes in my yardbox.

Re: Replace cutlass bearing

I could be done in the water with a strut pro tool. Not sure I'd want to be doing it...
