Here are some tips from someone who has removed (and installed) many dozens of Max Props, almost all underwater:
1.- Remove anode
2.- Feather the blades and mark the spinner halve/hub joint
3.- Remove the 6 end cap screws (all screws in this prop are secured by monel cotter pins. You will need to replace them with new ones.)
4.- Remove the end cap, blades and pivot piece as a unit
5.- Wipe out all the grease from spinner halves
6.- Making sure your marks are aligned, determine where the "Y" coordinate is set
7.- Remove the (4 or 6) spinner halve screws
8.- Remove the spinner halves
9.- Remove the cone nut, taking care to note where the "X" coordinate is set
10.- Remove the two prop nut retaining pins
11.- Remove the prop nut (this typically requires a thin-wall socket)
12.- Slide the hub off the
saildrive shaft splines
There is no split anode
sold for the
Volvo SD 120. It is a
single piece ring, and yes, the prop must be removed in order to replace the anode.
