Prop and shaft antifouling, Never-seez???

Any thoughts on using Never-Seez for a antifouling coat? Its thick, contains copper and is slick as heck. Might even to re-apply underwater...

My guess is that wouldn't stay on the running gear for very long, regardless of its effectiveness as an anti fouling.

Aloha Mike,

I have heard but haven't tried black felt tip magic marker ink. Shine the prop to a brilliance and coat it with magic marker. I am interested in how it works so if you do try it, please give us an update.
Kind regards,

JohnL

Long running joke is that BLACK ink doesn't work, but PINK ink does! LOL. Thought I throw out the Never-seez idea to the forum as I haven't seen it commented on. I believe Rick I. when he says that nothing works. Even propcoat which is tremendously expensive doesn't last long enough to justify the cost.

Deep breath and back to the SS brush!

I'm hoping you got this tip elsewhere but try it before you laugh too much.
It works for me.

Cheers
JOHN

I saw a posting that contained information about Prop Speed. The prop looked clean, albeit after only a short time. Has anyone tried this stuff?

Prop Speed works very well. But it is expensive and needs frequent reapplication.

If that is the case, I wonder why the industry just doesn't pickle the SS shafts black.

This has been rumored for years. It works here in my sweet water. Black Sharpie is what we've used.

I am thinking that perhaps something in a waterproof paste with a high amount of copper might work?

Ok, since silver is known to be an anti anything growing on it, why not silverplate the props instead? You could nearly do it yourself..just find someone that sells raw silver ingots and melt it down, OR you could use silver solder too..
You'd have to buy a BUNCH of it, but I think it can be had in bar form that body shops use. Fire up a nice coal fire in your barbeque pit, (i think silver melts at what, 700 degrees or so?) rough the prop up lightly with some 500 grit sandpaper, and dip the prop into the bucket of molten silver (or solder since it is all silver based now anyway since lead went away, and trust me, lead solder is MUCH easier to work with..) and then polish and away you go. Of course, it will tarnish just like copper or brass will, but since silver is a KNOWN anti fungal anti bacterial and is used (Silvedine) on severe burn patients to ensure that the burns do not get infected (Don't ask how I know this..but it was practical experience when I essentially smeared myself over 200 yards of concrete under a motorcycle at a drag strip)

I'd bet that would work..in fact, I'm going to try it by coating a small prop that way (a little two blade) and sending it down to a buddy on an oceanside marina and have him just dunk it in the water beside his boat on a fishing line and see how long it stays clean..
