Ontario 32 bracket/support for stuffing box

Has anyone got any experience as to what this piece of angle aluminum that the stuffing box lays on is for?

There doesn't appear to be any device that fixes the stuffing box to it...it just seems to rest upon it?

Any ideas?

I needed to bump this up. Thus far I haven't found any explanation for this saddle.
To clarify, the shaft exits the vessel offset to the port side.

Thanks for your help !!!

I have a PSS shaft seal on my Ontario, but I can see nothing that looks like a saddle, or where one was mounted. BTW, the shaft comes out the starboard side, not port.
