Good day:
As an owner of two
Volvo D1-30Bs, with saildrives, I have had an issue where the
clutch disk packs slip and fail to engage, leading to a complete loss of
power and manueverability. Apparently this is a common problem, as I have encountered other
Volvo sail drive owners with identical issues
Recently, Volvo issued a
service bulletin on this recommending that owers switch out the
oil in these sail drives FROM ATF (automatic
transmission fluid) TO SAE 15W40
motor oil.
I plan to do this at the earliest opportunity, having already paid for an expensive
repair of one of the
clutch disk packs (they are
sold by Volvo in a standard
service pack, shrink-wrapped in a
single package, making it easy to get the right set of plates, discs, and seals)
Please contact your Volvo dealer for more information.
Suggestions as to how anyone got Volvo to address this under warranty are also welcome.
Thanks.
