I looked at the galvanic table and have completely given up on any idea of the aluminum but I like the idea of a zerk fitting and lip seals. A Volvo seal is probably in my future but that will have to wait because the shaft is a bit rougher than I feel comfortable trusting and I'm not dropping the redder to completely remove it and throw more $100 bills around. Sooner or later knocking all of these convenience stores over is going to catch up with me haha

I will go with either a Volvo or bronze stuffing box into which I will install a zerk fitting.

I hear you. If the shaft is a little rough you could hone it a bit with a sharpening stone. One thing that I do which is contrary to the instructions is to coat the shaft with a little bit of Teflon grease. When taking the ring off the shaft remember that the set screws holding it are doubled up one on top of another. Many boaters have put an additional clamping collar in front of the the SS ring as insurance to prevent the ring from slipping forward.

My PSS came with the boat when I bought it 34 years ago. I won't say it has been trouble free because it hasn't been but there have been no serious issues with it.

Go with the Volvo seal. My boat had the original which was 15 years old with not a drip…. I changed it just because. Inexpensive, simple and works. Burp and Lightly grease 1 time at the beginning of season.

Yes I plan on putting a zinc directly in front of the stainless steel collar. I will lock tight the screws as well.

Next haul out I will get a new propeller shaft made. I can flip the stainless steel collar 180° and have a brand new face on the stainless side and take the carbon to a level face with 600 grit paper on a sheet of glass with some water on it and lightly sanding it. These were the instructions given by the manufacturer pyi. I will buy the new Bellows kit with set screws and circular clamps so it will functionally be new Once put back together. His shaft is just a little too rough for me to get smooth enough to feel comfortable with a Volvo Style at this point

Re: New prop shaft seal.

Good idea on flipping the collar around.
You could go back to a stuffing box. I’ve had both and don’t really prefer either other than the stuffing box you can service in the water, add packing. Sleep better too with out that bellows.

FWIW

I thought I would give the face seal a try since I can flip the collar around and the new Bellows is only $88 with new set screws and O-rings for the collar and circular clamps. I wasn't quite satisfied with the shaft smoothness to use packing or a lip seal. I'm interested to see how well it works though. One day I'd like to get a Volvo seal
