Lost Prop... Help?

I lost my prop off my 1972 Dufour Arpege with a MD2b and a 25mm prop shaft that had a Volvo 2 blade prop. What hardware do I need to put the prop back on? All I remember was this big cone shaped thing. Where can I get the hardware?

I am guessing the big cone shaped thing was a zinc. I would contact Dufour for exact specs on what is down there. Might even be in your owners manual. I would think you lost your nuts (no not those nuts) and the key as well. Are you sure the prop was a Volvo prop? is this a sail drive? If it is contact Volvo for info seriail should be on the engine plate next to engine serial.

When I was sailing in the Pacific, I cruised with a sailboat that lost two Maxiprops within a one month period of time. When the owner put the props on, he did not drill the shaft and place a retaining pin. Both props lasted more than half the way around the world, and they came off in a nearly synchronized manner. Very expensive mistake on a fifty foot monohull with two engines.

Assuming you have a fairly standard shaft setup you will need a prop, a key, a shaft nut, a cotter pin and probably need to replace the zinc. If you don't know what all these are you probably should get a local mechanic or yard to help or at least a knowledgeable and very friendly neighbor at the marina.
