Hurth HB100 rebuild

Has anyone had their pre-ZF Hurth transmission rebuilt with ZF replacement parts? I have heard they are not reliable. My hurth HB100 (1981) has failed to engage reverse on three occasions now when I most needed it. (coming in to the marina) I first checked the shifter and found it was faulty, replaced it. Checked fluid level, OK, measured travel distance of the shift lever @ the tranny, acceptable. Now it looks like rebuild or replace. Any thoughts on this are welcome.
