HELP Can use teflon flax for packing gland

My owners manual says not to use teflon flax for the stuffing gland.

Are there any problems switching to a teflon flax ?

Thanks,

Use ordinary flax with grease. The hotshot stuff like teflon fibers will score your shaft.

Re: HELP Can use teflon flax for packing gland

Some years go we switched from flax to a teflon coated packing, plus the special teflon based grease that West Marine was flogging at the time. It worked wonderfully well, zero dripping, no heat buildup, and after around twelve years and many thousands of cruising miles, there was no scoring of the shaft (plain s/s as far as I know).

So, I too must question Seymore's statement.
