I've had both. Maxprop is better quality imho.
My current Gori is getting replaced soon with a Varifold as I'm tired with the hull vibration caused by the blade design.
I might as well be swinging a couple of 2 x 4 blades.

Ive got a max on my 42.. nice as you can dial in the pitch to the max-RPM of the motor.. Our max-rpm is rated at 36 hundred and our prop chokes the motor at 34 hundred..

G'Day Rhrhhrhr (or whatever )

You do realize that you are comparing apples and oranges here, don't you? The Max is a feathering prop whilst the Gori is a folding prop... quite different beasts, both in principles and in performance.

In general, the floders offer better efficiency going forward and much less static thrust in reverse than the feathering jobs. Details on request...

Having said that, there are lots of different designs of each type on the market. The Max is highly thought of in the States, but tends to be rather pricey. For an alternative feathering prop you might look at the Australian Auto-Stream, which I believe is marketed in the US by Martec. Performance and durability are at least as good IMO. If what you want is a folding prop, I can suggest looking at Flex-O-Fold. Much less expensive than Gori, better made and in most tests published better performing. The only thing that Gori offers that is unique is a so-called Overdrive mode where one can do some magic and change the pitch whilst underway.

Hope that this helps your decision... any of these props will enhance your sailing performance and in our case have been well worth the expense.

Cheers,

None of the above...consider Seahawk Slipstream stainless folder. Great bite forward or reverse and only right around a grand.

Cheers,

Bob

Also reading as much as possible on folding/feathering props. My question is this, is a shaft brake required to stop the shaft so blades will fold or feather? I have a velvet drive and I believe the shaft would continue to in neutral.

If you can use a 17" Flex-O-Fold, 1 1/4 shaft, do I have a deal for you.........
