Ferryman Diesel with Hydro drive transmission

I have a Shipman 28 mono-hull sailboat (Made in Ireland). It has a Ferryman diesel engine with a hydro-drive transmission (no gears). I live in the U.S. (Maryland) and haven't been able to find a mechanic that knows anything about the transmission. It leaks badly. Of course, the transmission is very difficult to get to and mechanics really don't want to try.

Any suggestions about finding someone to work on this transmission. Perhaps someone can direct me to some information about this transmission.

Thanks,

Smoothie

Re: Ferryman Diesel with Hydro drive transmission

Hi Smoothie,

I owned a Shipman with one of these. From memory the aluminium drum bolted the the rear of the engine was made by a company called Hydromarin. You could try the Irish Shipman sailing association. They still have a strong fleet in Ireland. Someone there may be able to help you with advice. I guess most boats now will have been re-engine, although my old boat, which I sold in 2004, still has the original engine and transmission and is still running fine.

Re: Ferryman Diesel with Hydro drive transmission

i have a kubota 15 hp maranised by hydromarine, with a hurth 100R gearbox,as far as i know they went out of business years ago.

they mainly only fabricated the alloy castings for the engine mounts, bell housings, alternator brackets, raw water pump and exhaust manifolds.

every thing else was bought in,so you might want to check the gearbox and see who it was made by,they might still be in business.
