Engine & Prop Shaft Removal

No strut, it's a BABA 35, been in place 17 years. Unless it's time to replace the engine mounts, like Yanmar soft mounts, the alignment adjustments should be minimal. There should be enough room to disengage the coupling with a minor aft movement of the shaft. If it requires very much then the prop will interfer with the rudder. I'd try to contact other owners to see how it plays out.

Thanks everyone for the info/advice.

The boat is already out of the water but not strictly for engine work/replacement. Although appropriate for this time of year anyway, we hauled out the week before Hurricane Sandy hit to begin a major 18 month refit. I bought the boat in Maryland in June, then sailed it home to Massachusetts with my girlfriend. After living aboard for two months we hauled the boat, pulled the rig and bowsprit for repair, and are hauling the engine from the boat this week. I'll pull the shaft for inspection, which won't be difficult past the cutout in the turned rudder, and have the crane at the yard to the heavy lifting.
