Electric Rudder Drive

Here is another interesting Electric drive.

It' called Torqueedo e-motion Rudder Drive.

I think this is where electric propulsion is really going to take off. It provides the option of configurations that are extremely difficult if not impossible with mechanical propulsion.

Hopefully these kinds of concepts will get more people interested and more consumer money filtered into development so that it can work its way up to bigger boats that need more power for longer run time. Battery density is still the biggest hurdle, and EV manufacturers are really pushing on that front.

Torqueedo is probably going to be the main innovator in this space.

They are well funded and not afraid of trying new things.
