Coopercoat, what to put on saildrive and FFOF

Hi all,

I have Coopercoat on the hulls, what are you using for the saildrives and propeller. I have FFOF.

My saildrives are newish, so getting them to plain Alu is not an option for propspeed.
Due to German propspeed importer you can put the final coat of propspeed without their primer directly on the lightly sanded saildrives. Did that but not turned out good even metricously cleaned with 98% alcohol.

I already done that and they repeated what was on the description. not willing to do another test round and wasting 800Euro incl. Haulout.
Saildrive was impeccable clean, it was a new one.
I didn't use any primer as due to instruction, sand the original powder coat with 400 grid wet, clean with 98% alcohol and put the final coat on. On the saildrive that should work due to german importer Bukh in Bremen. Well it didn't.
Not taking a new powder coated saildrive to bare alu to apply a propspeed primer.

Re: Coopercoat, what to put on saildrive and FFOF

a couple options:

You can very thickly and thoroughly coat your drives with barrier coat and then you can use copper-based paint of whatever type you want

Pettit VIVID is okay for saildrives regardless whether you want to barrier coat, but it is an ablative paint and so will need regular refreshing
