Color of Transmission Fluid in Saildrives

I noticed yesterday that the transmission fluid in one of my Volvo saildrives had turned a tan color (originally reddish pink). The owners manual says if it turns GRAY that indicates water intrusion, but doesn't mention this sandy color (with no shade of gray). I'm going to change it right away and call the local Volvo shop, but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

Regarless...it is contamination. Probably due to wear. If it has never been changed, it may be a combination of wear and moisture. After changing, it may be best to check it every few months to see if it changes again. If so, a seal of mechanical part may be failing.

I agree with above, probably water contamination. Bad news if it is. Salt water in the bearings can ruin them so you want to change it out and then run it for an hour and change again, and again until no sign of water. It might be an O-ring, or it could be the shaft seal. Might be wise to have it checked out if you don't feel confident to do it yourself before going in the water. Good luck.
