Another Yard Horror Story

Yard hauls boat...."finds loose strut:".....pulls strut and sends it out to get "fixed" re-installs strut.....does not even check alignment...zip-zop-slam it in........

Customer calls me up for advice....what can I say?

I told him that any time you "mux" with the drivetrain...you have to check the alignment.

No film.....alignment checked out OK...The Bolts were loosey-goosey and there was no safety wire on the locking bolt.

What about just changing the cutless (lass) (which is it?) bearing? Shouldn't (there's that word again) affect alignment should it?

I know it's not nice to laugh at other's boat ideas (especially those that you know have taken a lot of time & effort), but .............

........everytime I see a DIY added pilot house / wheel shelter in a similar vein as the photos above I wonder to myself:- "WTF did the designs that were rejected look like???!" and puzzle over how a mind works that says "yeah, that's the look I was after"

Of course those in the picture are not the worst efforts I have ever seen...........and I accept that in the freezing cold p#ssing rain asthetics are not the top priority, but still.................

Just a cutlass shouldn't br a problem....depending on the wear indicators on the shaft and inside cutlass.

I don't know, but somebody also bought an awful lot of AMC Pacers back in the day too, though.

The Pilot House of that Tri looks like it came off of a 1950's era Peterfor Truck.

I see they take great care in "BLOCKING" the boats there.

There is a Yard around here we call the Elephant Graveyard....aka "Boat Motel"

They get hauled move progressively inland.....then are cut up
