Yanmar Training?

It seems MackBoring is not hosting the 2- day hands-on seminars they used to offer.
Any other options you guys have chosen?

I really want this type of class where you take apart and put back the engine, and so the basic maintenance tasks
I don’t want to sit in a classroom and learn about diesel engines in general like in Annapolis academy.
(I know some will say i should and I agree but I don’t have the time or money)

Thx!

They’re not marine specific it seems. The description of the course doesn’t look like it used too.
Seems to be catered to actual mechanics

Thx for looking that up though

Disagree..I’ve taken their course they are Yanmar engine specific towards the boat owner as described below..

In the 2-day Hands-On Class from Mack Boring & Parts Co. students will learn how to perform routine maintenance as well as how to break down an engine to perform emergency repairs. The class is over 60% hands-on, working on Yanmar engines. The class takes a practical approach, with an emphasis on how to deal with the unexpected. Students learn by doing. By the end of Day 2, they will have bled the fuel system, changed the impeller, checked the injector system, torqued the head bolts and more.

The course describes essential repair parts to keep on board, how to use them and where to purchase them. Nearly every maintenance and repair procedure will be addressed with tips and shortcuts to make engine work easier and keep your boat operating cleaner. Take home reference manuals include charts, diagrams and step by step repair instructions

Re: Yanmar Training?

Fantastic course in Somerset, NJ, and well worth the cost, according to my ex-, even if you consider yourself knowledgeable about engines in general (say, you grew up with your head under the hood of a car). He felt the course would pay for itself, with what he learned. Highly useful reference materials and small class sizes. Plus you can shoot your Mack Boring instructor emails with any later questions, and he can also help you find parts.

From their current class description on the website: "In the 2-day Hands-On Class from Mack Boring & Parts Co. students will learn how to perform routine maintenance as well as how to break down an engine to perform emergency repairs. The class is over 60% hands-on, working on Yanmar engines. The class takes a practical approach, with an emphasis on how to deal with the unexpected. Students learn by doing."

The only change I see is that this year's classes have combined power and sail boaters.

I would encourage anyone who thinks they may be interested to sign up for future notices or to get on a waiting list. Gives you time to save up for the course fee and hotel charges.

No, I did not get compensated for my remarks.

Cheryl are you aware that Mack Boring has/had a diesel course for women only? My wife took it a number of years ago very informative for women with zero diesel background..

Seems pretty marine specific to me. Here is the Yanmar course description:

Understand the basic functions of the Yanmar GM, YM, JH(Non-Common rail) engine families and be able to carry out repairs. • Understand the basic functions of the Yanmar 4LH, 6LP and 6LY (A/2) engine families and be able to carry out repairs. • Understand the basic functions of the ZT370 stern Drive

Add to that, they have more general 2 day courses running Oct 21, Oct 24, Dec 16

No, I had no idea. I've never seen it on their website. I took a weekend course just for women at Narragansett Sailing (owned by Mary Goff) in Rhode Island a couple of years ago. We did take an engine apart. So much to learn! I definitely could use another go-round, since I've forgotten most of what I learned. I'll give them a call. All they need is enough participants, and I'm sure they'd be up to hold a session. Thanks for the tip!
