On Superyachts, the pay varies a great deal upon whether the
boat is based somewhere or is truly “pelagic”.
In this non-guild/union
environment, performance and loyalty of the individual are rewarded much more. If it is a high profile
Charter yacht the benefits/gratuities can be thru the roof.
Also, many captains and owners will use a 3 to 5 year “balloon payment scheme” for key crew to promote stability within the team. Very hard to compare as the compensation is as varied as the Owners
