Sorry, but you're lying too and misleading anyone who come across this thread.

Belgian registration is much more popular among Spanish sailors and they describe in details how to apply:

https://foro.latabernadelpuerto.com/...d.php?t=132735

I don't speak even a word in Spanish (and all Belgian languages as well) so Google translator was my friend.

According to Spanish friends a Belgium official confirmed that it is still possible to apply.

So I did 3 weeks ago and today I've received request to pay the tax (61.5eur). Which means that the registration was successful.

I've applied directly. Without any useless agents who charge 400eur. There are only two of them and they barely speak English, reply with delays. Google translator is the best agent and works for free.

Also for some stupid reason the agents require original deletion certificate. Belgians are happy with an uploaded scanned copy.

I know it is not a EU country, but getting registration in Langkawi is also pretty cheap and can be done through an agent.

Sweden does not require registration of boats smaller than 12*4m, so if you keep the Swedish flag, MAYBE you are OK. The Swedish cruising association can issue you an international certificate if you are a member. These are accepted abroad. Not sure if this requires Swedish residency, but you could check.

It's my impression Belgium is extremely expensive and the boat must be 51% Belgium owned

My boat is registered in Holland. I used a broker and it was very easy. How good it is, I can't say honestly.

I was told Americans could not register SSR3. So I set up a UK LLC. I was told it still could not register because I am an American. I ask for a manager to contact me to verify this. No one did.

I told them they lost the war 250 years ago and get over it.

It is my understanding that Belgium now requires a 51% Belgium owner for those considering it.

Re: Registering a boat in EU fast and simple - which country?

I registered my boat in Holland using the 'light' registration with my UK LLC as the owner.

What is the difference between it and the 'flag' registration?

Is it really important?

What flag should I use?

My main concerns are the Schengen issues.

Should I consider another method?

Where did you get that from?

You only need to be an EU citizen (or Belgian resident probably). As an EU citizen with no links to Belgium I've registered my boat w/o any problems.

You better ask in that Spanish forum. Here most are not interested in Belgium flag.

A boat owned by a company can't be registered on the SSR. You would need to have it registered on part 1.

Re: Registering a boat in EU fast and simple - which country?

Their reply specifically stated their issue was that I was American. They said nothing about the LLC which I set when they rejected my original attempted to register in my name.

Heard the same thing too.

I suppose all it takes to find out is a French or Flemish speaker to call up the Belgian authorities and ask.
