A surveyor/broker would be a conflict of interest and prohibited in both SAMS and NAMS Code of Ethics.

Learning to sail in controlled conditions is not hard. Sailing in challenging conditions is harder, yet must be mastered to the point of it becoming second nature in order to be able to focus on all the other aspects (the intricacies as you correctly say) of managing the boat.
