IYT Bareboat Qualification

Hi, I am planning to travel to Thailand next month to do my IYT Bareboat qualification.

What would you guys recommend that I read up in for the theory side of the exam?

Thanks

Did you not get a manual?

The syllabus is here

I did not get a manual, so will chase up now. I read through the syllabus but was wondering if there was a central document that could be referenced upon.

Failing that any good reading material would not go amiss!

Thanks for the response.

Follow up with the school for sure.

IYT does offer an e-learning course at USD$99

I would also consider reading any one of the many books that cover the subject. Chapman's Piloting, Annapolis Book of Seamanship etc..

Re: IYT Bareboat Qualification

I followed up with the school and they sent me a pretty comprehensive breakdown of the course. Definitely some reading in there! I will have a look for the references books above on Amazon, but I live in China and things take an age to make it here if they get stuck in customs

Be very careful about your expectations of your ticket to be recognized. The IYT Bareboat Skipper ticket has the MCA (British) logo on it that has had many students and training schools believing that it has validity. I have heard of many holders in Europe disappointed about this fact and that the MCA is investigating IYT over this fraud.

Ah, but the IYT Bareboat also give the validity of ICC if you pay the licence fee. The ICC as I understand it is very much valid regardless of the status of IYT.

Can you point me to the source of this, please?
