I would also ask if they have an online presense. A good online history in a major sailing community would mean a great deal to me.

Generally the good ones don’t need to ‘boast’ on-line but by word-of-mouth from satisfied and long term customers/clients

I mean simply an online reputation with some history. Not an online business.
