The FCC now approves Amateur Radio License on line. A good source for proceeding is hamstudy.org I have no affiliation with the company and no doubt there are other good options. I wanted to spread the word that for the US you can now get licensed without attending a proctored exam. KF7JLR

To clarify, all online VEC exams are proctored albeit remotely. Because of Covid, this was a short-term accommodation in some places.

Thank you, I was incorrect about the proctor. I now see that a video link is necessary when taking the test.

I wasn't aware that you could take the test online. I just started studying for the Technician License.

I bought the spiral bound ARRL License Manual, 4th edition that the test is based on and have been following Dave Casler's YouTube channel. He walks you through the entire manual, giving really clear explanations of all the technical stuff.

If you want to dive in deep, his videos cover just about all ham topics including equipment choices and how to evaluate what you need. Short of a personal mentor, I don't know how else you'd get up to speed. I am impressed with the depth and volume of material he offers.

Im UK Amateur licence holder and it seems that the UK are now doing online exams due to covid.

I wonder if anyone can tell me is it possible to do the UK marine VHF exam online yet?

Wow I can only imagine if the USA or Mexico for that matter required passing a test to use VHF! Consider how bored the Coast Guard radio operators would be not having to explain about using working channels. 10 4 over and out. ��

I sat for my Technician's Ham license on Wednesday online. The exam was administered and proctored by the great volunteers of the Aurora Amateur Radio Group. They took it seriously and required two cameras to observe the testing. They were super positive and encouraging in what was a somewhat cumbersome process to set everything up.

I missed three of thirty five questions and passed. I had my call sign less than 24 hours later. They say it takes five to seven business days. All in all I couldn't have been happier with the process and it would have taken a much longer wait to take the exam locally (4.5 hours from where I live).
