Drunk on dad boat can and will count towards you 100-ton license. if the boat is under 100 tons a 4 hour day underway is considered 1 day. Over 100 tons it must be an 8 hour day. A canoe with an electric motor is considered usable time as it has propulsion. A cook in the navy gets no seatime that will count toward a license.
The rec no longer have a say in how things are done. It is all managed by NMC in west virginia

Call up the NMC and try to reason with them; it won't go very far. I was on a submarine and got zero of that time approved. Drifting along fishing on the lake with a six pack? You're good to go.

I would go to the 2 week school. It is easier than spending several months learning the material. i do not know if the rec even test for hte 100 and 200 any more, I know there was talk about doing away with that. Start stuyding the rules of the road. That part of the test you must get 90 percent on. sea school is not that bad depending on were you live. The school is WELL worth it. I hold 100 master with sail 200 mate, and will be sitting for 3rd unlimited soon

Passing the test via self-study can be done but it's hard. The USCG is trying to get rid of issuing exams and hand everything off to certified schools. I did my self study in advance of a course, and I found they both had their merits. Knowing the rules of the road fairly well before you take the course can really help. A lot of memorize.
Get your master's license "100 ton". It's virtually the same test for your oupv but allows you to work on inspected vessels as well.

I think that the oupv is 8 days of school and the master is 10 days of school but basically the same test. If you have the sea time get it.

Thanks for all the responces! I'll have to see what is offered in my area. Has anyone used the on line courses when they can't find the classes in their area.

Thanks I'll start the search, the Admiral says this is my winter assignment, and it does make sense to go for the 100 ton license.

Re: For Which USCG Captain’s License Can I Qualify ?
It make MORE since to go for the 100 to license IF YOU have the sea time. If you ever want to upgrade you have to take the whole test over again. If you have the seatime do it. it is the same test,,,the only difference is seatime. The schools give the same test for the 6-pack license and 100 ton. It is just a matter of sea time

Re: For Which USCG Captain’s License Can I Qualify ?
Are there any recommendations for any of the USCG/NMC certified schools for SixPack - inspected vessel masters 100ton courses? The list of certified schools on NMC's site is pretty long. Thanks

Re: For Which USCG Captain’s License Can I Qualify ?
Thanks for replying so quickly, Capt.Mike. I'm less interested in charters and more interested in deliveries and professional "boat driver" opportunities as you suggested.
