These glasses seem very interesting: Technology | EnChroma
There aren't the red and green lenses that require you to close one eye or the other to differentiate. Instead, They use filters to enhance the difference between colors by attenuating the intermediate colors.

I haven't tried them, and I suspect that they would darken the view too much to be used at night, or for the license test. Still might be worth checking out. Not cheap, though.

One issue I have had is with telltales (this is for a simulator I have developed). Some users find it hard to distinguish colours on the headsail telltales. Hardly surprising as red and green are the most commonly confused colours I think?

I have been searching around for solutions as it seems amazing that this has not been discussed more. So I have implemented a banding on the red telltale. I would be interested in any feedback on this and should it be implemented in the real world?

I am significantly red-green color blind and I rely on shapes and numbers to identify buoys. I painted and labeled a paint-stir stick and keep it on the helm to help me keep the colors straight. The reverse side of the stick is logically labeled in the other direction.

We really avoid cruising at night. When we do, both of us are at the helm.

Many computer monitors include methods for adjusting the displayed colors. Four in one class may be a lot. Have you checked your monitor?
