The best way to gain proficiency is to join a sailing club.

S/V...I got in touch with two sailing clubs here in Wilmington.... looks like i need to know some one before i can get my foot in the door...i just sent an e-mail to another club so i will wait to hear from them....just want to sail and learn.....so if you have any specific place in mind please let me know.....i really thought it would be a little easier in joining a club...

Re: ASA101

Another good way to get out on the water is to crew on a race boat. Find out when the local beer can races are held, show up looking like you are ready to go sailing (gloves, shoes, light jacket) and a six pack of good beer to share. Boats almost always need crew and it will get you out on the water on a regular basis.

When you are ready for your next sailing class, check out LTD Sailing!

Have fun!

Re: ASA101

What about the club where you obtained your 101, or was that a school only?

As others have already told you, a sailing club or crewing on races is the best way. I'm on the other coast so not much help I'm afraid.

Good luck!

Re: ASA101

There are (at least) two different kinds of clubs:
-yacht clubs, which are primarily geared toward owners. It sounds like this is the kind of club you have contacted.
-sailing clubs, which are primarily geared toward day charters. These often have a service for members to get together and share a day charter.
