ASA in TEXAS

Hey Folks,

Fixin' to knock out an ASA 103/104 in the Houston area. Any recommendations for schools in the Houston/Kemah area?
Or better, any ones to avoid? PM with negatives...

Thanks for your help, it is genuinely appreciated.

Re: ASA in TEXAS

Have you checked for schools in your area on the ASA website? They have a listing by location of all ASA affiliate schools. Next - I would recommend checking for independent reviews. If they are not on Trip Advisor or some similar review site, I would be suspicious.

Re: ASA in TEXAS

We used Bay Area Sailing School for 101 a few years ago, and had a good experience. They're in the Watergate Yacht Center.

I have also heard good things about South Coast Sailing, in Kemah, but have no personal experience. I suppose Kemah will be closer to the Bay, and Bay Area closer to the lake, depending on where the training actually occurs (less time in a no-wake zone).

It really comes down to the instructor, though.

I second the Bay Area school in the Watergate Marina area, in Kemah. Even though I live in Corpus and we have an ASA school here. I took my ASA101 class with Bay Area and plan on getting my ASA103 and 104 from them as soon as I can afford it..

Great bunch.. flk k

Re: ASA in TEXAS

We took our courses through Discover Sailing School who are located in the Watergate Marina. Very nice folks.

Sailventures USA also offers these courses as well. We are currently Sailventures USA members in their fractional program. Capt. Evan is a great guy to work with.

Re: ASA in TEXAS

I highly recommend Bay Area Sailing School. Two weeks ago completed the 101, and this past weekend the 103/104 combo.
I can't say enough positive things about them.

Re: ASA in TEXAS

If you use Meetup, there are a few sailing groups that I've recently discovered. The Clear Lake Sailing group and the Kemah Sailing group. They both offer classes quit often, and I believe they are ASA too. You might join one of those groups and get some local first hand experiences.

Re: ASA in TEXAS

Thank you for the feedback folks. I think I will get ASA 103/104 at Bay Area Sailing, just don't want to sleep on the boat, going to wait till it cools of a bit though...

Then its cat time!
