Affordable countries for RYA certifications

I'm interested in getting the Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper certifications.

Each unit costs around €1700 in Europe.

I'm wondering if there are countries around the world with high quality courses and more affordable currencies.

Thanks

The going rate for a 9-day combined dayskipper theory/practical at the big sailing schools in the solent in the UK is £895, or a little under €1100

Hi you can look at South Africa, pricing very favorable due to exchange rate! Durban or Cape Town.

Re: Affordable countries for RYA certifications

It's not 1'700 in general (as already mentioned above).

Here for example a RYA Day skipper course (practical/theory) in the Algarve [1] or in Gibraltar [2] for plus/minus 1000. I'm sure there are many more similar around, just google...

Re: Affordable countries for RYA certifications

We have a great guy here in Canada (Nova Scotia) In Slocum's Wake Sailing whose general rate is about $800 Canadian - but flying across the Pond would cancel out any cost-savings, I would guess.

One of our members recently did his YM Offshore theory in South Africa, but I'm still scratching my head about flying to SA to sit in a classroom to do that portion of the YM. (I don't know - maybe he's doing the fast-track method where you go from Day Skipp all the way up to YM in one go.)

Good luck - the RYA courses are totally worth it.

Warmly,

Btw, I *love* The Big Lebowski, Duderino!
